Episode Twenty: Tension Thick as Blood

"Ewwww... he smells," I said when Nick handed me Erik.

"That's why i'm handing him to you," Nick said.

"Noooo, I changed him last time, it's your turn," I whined.

"No,"

"Yes,"

"No,"

"Yes,"

"Someone's going to enjoy the couch tonight," I said.

"What? This isn't even your house," he questioned.

"So,"

"Fine, lets both change him so it's fair,"

"Fine,"

While we were changing him the phone rang, we both raced for the phone. Unfortunately, Nick got it first. He smirked and stuck his tongue at me. I just gave him an evil glare and stepped on his foot. Walking back to the bathroom, I washed myself and Erik up.

"Okay, I knew I was forgetting something," Nick said walking back into the bathroom.

"Uh oh, Nick Carter forgot something! Dun, dun, dun," I said jokingly.

"Well, you see Liz, there's this thing tonight that I kinda forgot about that we have to go to,"

"Okay what's this thing tonight that you kinda forgot about that we have to go to,"

Letting out a sigh, "It's just this little thing the record company is doing, just a little something,"

"Oh thanks for the short notice. Me and Erik have like nothing to wear,"

"It's alright, we can take of that,"

"Uhhhh.... I so don't want to go. Couldn't you go by yourself or something?"

"I don't know. Please Liz,"

"Damn it you said please," I muttered. Nick simply smirked.

The party happened to be for Nick. It was at the four seasons hotel and the record company sort of threw a little party for him, congratulating him on becoming a father and for making People Weeklys '50 most beautiful people in the world' 2000. Which I am still waiting for my free copy.

All eyes were on us as we walked in. Thankfully, Nick's stylist managed to get me and Erik some very nice clothes. It felt so weird being in public the three of us. I am now known as Elizabeth Centera: Mother of Nick Carter's child. I already knew most of the female population hated me and wanted to kill me.

"Oh my gosh he is so cute!" I heard a female voice exclaim.

Raising my eyes, I was met with a blonde haired lady with her hand holding Brian's. Brian gave me a shy gaze and quickly looked away. Uh oh, was all I could think. After that night at the motel, I really haven't said anything to Brian.

"Yeah he is," I said laughing slightly.

"He looks so much like you, Elizabeth right? Hi i'm Leighanne," she said brightly smiling.

"Yeah, but you can call me Liz,"

"Come on let's go sit down," she said gesturing for the table.

"Liz me and Brian are going go around say 'hi' to people, okay?" Nick said.

"Go ahead," I said and following Leighanne to the table.

"Oh my, he is so adorable," she commented pinching his cheek, "I can't wait to have children."

"Here why don't hold him," I offered, handing her Erik.

Carefully she cradled him into her arms. Taking a sip of my water I quickly took in the elegant room. It had a very nice antique setting. There were also people here and there socializing.

"So, are you and Brian going out?" I asked, curious.

"Yeah, in fact we're getting married soon," she said.

Scanning her hands for an engagement ring, she had a very expensive looking ring on her finger. The diamonds reflected nicely from the light in the room.

"Really? Congratulations,"

"So what about you and Kid Nicky over there? Thinking about getting hitched?" she asked.

I laughed, "I don't know."

"You guys look so cute together and you have such handsome looking son."

"Yeah but i'm not sure, I don't think i'm ready for that yet,"

"Awww that's too bad, we could have had a double wedding or something," she giggled.

We fell into a silence, since I didn't know what else to say. Leighanne continued to play with Erik making little noises. The typical stuff people do with babies. Looking around the room, my eyes fell onto Brian again and he was looking straight at me with a weird look on his face. I just shook my head. I probably was imagining things from the lack of sleep I was receiving.

"Hey do you mind watching him for just a bit. I gotta get some fresh air," I said getting out of my chair.

"Go right ahead," she said smiling brightly.

Walking outside, I sat myself on a bench in front of the water fountain which was of dolphins. The cool night breeze was nice against my bare skin. I remembered when I was a little girl how I used to throw pennies into the fountain making some silly wish that never came true.

Searching my purse for a penny, I found one and stood up and walked towards the fountain. Squeezing the penny in my hand, I closed my eyes and concentrated on a wish. I really didn't know what to wish for, I had everything I wanted in a way. I was lucky enough to have Nick and Erik. The two most important males in my life.

Tossing the penny into the water, it made a little 'bu-wop' sound. I just wished us the best.

"Liz, hello," I heard a familiar voice behind me.

Turning around I was met with a familiar pair of blue eyes. Brian was standing there looking shy, with his hands stuffed in his pockets.

"Hi,"

"Liz, there's something I have to tell you,"

"Okay, can we sit down?" I asked motioning for the bench.

"Sure," he said as we made our way to the bench.

"This has been killing me ever since what happened a long time ago," he began.

"Yeah... what about it?" I asked nervously.

"Ever since that night we spent together... I just can't stop thinking about you,"

I gulped, "Me?"

"Yeah you," he whispered.

Brian leaned forward and caught me off guard. My heart was racing and before I knew it, Brian had his lips softly pressed to mine. The kiss felt like the kiss we shared a long time ago, filled with longing and desperation.

I was lost in the moment for a second but as soon as my conscience kicked in, I immediately pulled away. Thank goodness I have a conscience. I looked at Brian with a shocked look, my breath coming out in short gasps.

"I've been wanting to do that for a while," he murmured.

I sat up straight and my eyes were wide. What the hell did I just do? I just did not kiss Nick's bestest friend in the world. Looking to my left, the space where Brian was sitting previously, it was empty. He was gone

"Hey you," I heard Nick say.

"Oh my God Nick you scared me,"

"What you doing out here? I'm about to get honored and you're out here,"

"Sorry,"

"Are you okay? You look like you've seen a ghost,"

"It's nothing," I said forcing a smile and taking his hand, "Come on, let's go inside."
