Takes Two To Tango
Chapter 4
Handing her keys to the Valet Parking person she pushed the door and walked inside and made her way to the ballroom specified on her invitation. When she found what she was looking for, Sarah took at deep breath and pushed open the double doors.
She was met with the sound of chatter. Examining the elegant ballroom style room she was amazed at how beautiful had looked. It was as if it was a scene stolen from a movie. Walking inside, everyone was dressed sharply in their gowns and tuxedos. In the backround the orchestra was playing a beautiful classical tune.
As she walked by her fellow co-workers greeted her, raising their champange glasses to her, giving her smiles. Finding her reserved table she sat down alone. Sipping her glass of water she was surprised at the number of people in attendance to this event.
Meanwhile across the room, Nick was sitting down conversing with some business people. Lena to his side. Nick pretended to be interested in what they had to say to them not even understanding what they were saying to him. Merely giving them a nod and short answers.
It was when he took a sip of water and looked over the room he nearly spit out the water from his glass when he saw a certain someone across the room. Nick focused his attention on the young woman. He thought he was daydreaming but there was no mistaking it was Sarah Hampton.
Nick found it odd for her to be at this event. What would be her business here? Last time he saw her she lived in the Bay Area. That's when he realized a lot can change in nearly three years. He was still surprised she wore the dress she wore when she turned eighteen.
Sarah still managed to look as beautiful as ever. Nothing in her changed, she still possessed the rich dark brown hair and a gentle face. He nearly forgot there were people in the room until she heard Lena's voice.
"Are you okay Nick?" she asked placing a hand on his arm.
"Yeah, i'm okay,"
"I gotta make a quick call to the bathroom all right," Lena said getting out of her chair.
"All right,"
Just looking at Sarah brought old feelings of her back. Even though he refused to admit it, he was still in love with her and would always love her with all his heart. It was now or never for him.
"Live Life to the fullest...,"
Excusing himself from the table he slowly made his way to her table. With every step he took his heart started to pound faster and he felt like a nervous wreck. As he got closer, he noticed she realized his presensce. The look on her face was like she saw a ghost.
"Hello Sarah," he said softly.
"Nick... hi,"
"It's uhhh nice here isn't it?" he asked attempting a conversation.
"Very nice,"
Sarah wanted to run. She had no idea Nick would be here and if she'd known he would be here she wouldn't have come. She avoided his eyes, looking into them would hurt her. A thick silence surrounded them and Sarah wished there was a way to escape this. Then as if by pure coincidence the violins started the opening notes the tango and then the orchestra joined in.
The tango brought back old memories. Sarah remembered on countless occassions how Nick and her would dance it and have a great time.
"Sarah... I was wondering, maybe you'd like a dance? It wouldn't hurt," he said.
Inside, her heart was beating uncontrollably in her chest and it was screaming *YEEESSS* but she knew she couldn't. She couldn't let herself be caught up with him again. But her lips betrayed her.
"Yes,"
Then as if in slow motion, she took his hand and he led her to the dance floor. The dancefloor cleared for them as they began their dance. Everyone seemed to be amazed at her perfectly they were in step, rhtym. It was like second nature to them.
Through out the dance, familar feelings arised inside of Sarah. She'd forgotten how it was like being that close to Nick and how nice and tingly it made her feel. They danced like there was no tomorrow. Everyone in the room seemed to disappear and it was only them.
The room was suddenly hot. The song was almost over and Sarah risked a glance into Nick's eyes. There they were, a pair of blue eyes looking thru her with the most fiercest look. She took note of his parted lips and wanted nothing more to kiss them.
All too soon the last note played and they stood still looking deeply into each others eyes. The room errupted into an applause but that didn't matter.
"Thank you very much for the dance Sarah," he whispered then releasing himself from her grasp. She watched as he walked off to his table where a beautiful young woman planted a kiss on Nick's lips.
Nick obviously knew Sarah was watching and it hurt him as he watched her move from her spot. He wanted nothing more to run to her, kiss her, tell her how much he loves her but he couldn't do that.
"Who was that girl you were dancing with Nick?" Lena asked almost a little too harshly.
"An old friend," Nick simply replied.
After seeing that, Sarah couldn't believe what she was thinking a few moments ago. Three years, Nick had time to find another person. She laughed at herself for being stupid, quickly telling Mr. Bradford she had to leave early because of her son and got her car from the Valet attendant.
As she drove home, she couldn't fight the tears from falling out of her eyes. She didn't know why she was feeling this way, she refused to believe she was still in love with Nick. It just wasn't possible. He left her, he's the one who broke her heart. Pulling the car into the driveway she ran upstairs to Ethan's room and looked at her son sleeping soundly gripping his favorite toy.
Though she hated to say it, he was growing up and looking more and more like Nick everyday. Possessing his blonde hair, blue eyes, and cute cheeks. Quietly she climbed into bed with him and kissed his forehead.
"I love you Ethan," she said before falling asleep.

"What's wrong Nicky? You seem different tonight," Lena commented as the two were lying down on his bed cuddled up together.
Nick felt miserable. Just when he thought he was on his road to getting over Sarah he was back at square one. He couldn't stop thinking about her, he tried and tried but the thought of her clouded his entire mind.
"Maybe this will help you forget about whatever is bothering you," she murmured moving from her spot and crawling on top of him. Straddling him she planted kisses all over his face, lips and neck.
Lena's soft lips meant nothing to him. Nothing at all. He didn't feel anything special from them. Nick watched her, her eyes filled with desire, desire for him. Her hands reached for the hem of her t-shirt and pulled it over her. Removing her bra, looked at him seductively and ran her hands over herself.
Bending down, she kissed his Nick and murmured little naughty sayings to him. Nick could feel her hardened nipples pressing against his chest. His body betrayed him as he started to get aroused and hard down there.
At the wrong time, Nick's mind started to rationalize him. Telling him he didn't need Lena, he needed Sarah. Sarah Hampton, the mestisa from San Jose, California. The one who had a funky American, British, and Filipino accent rolled into one. His mind conjured up an image of Sarah.. her face, her eyes, her lips, her verloptious body.
"Sarah...," he murmured.
"Sarah? Who the fuck is Sarah?" Lena asked angerily.
"I'm sorry," he just said.
"Sorry, Nick are you cheating on me? Was it that girl? Huh was that her?! You bastard!" she yelled but Nick didn't care.
Lena hopped off the bed and threw on her shirt and ran out of his room. Nick stared up at the ceiling. Sighing tomorrow he'd make a trip to the Real Estate Inc. offices and ask Mr. Bradford about Sarah.
